Dream Sequence 2: Simulacra video is out now!

Based on a text reconstructed from the artist’s own questionable, dream-like memories, Alain Chiu’s Dream Sequence builds on the concept of a collage. Sound art, musical composition and various media are combined to explore the metaphysical concept of the “present”. Dream Sequence comprises three parts: Anatomy of a Dream reveals “reality” playing out at different intensities in the background stories and hidden clues laid out in the Instagram of an insomniac virtual persona over a period of time; in Simulacrum, the exhibition hall of the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre is turned into a blueprint of space, on which CGI 3D technology is applied to create a four-dimensional space where reality and virtuality co-exist and the new intersects with the old; I always hated the moisture, it makes me feel tired invites the audience to walk into another four-dimensional virtual space (mobile app/web page). As they take this journey reconstructed from the artist’s memories, the audience experiences its plots, sequences, and sensory details, picking up some parts of these memories to create their very own song of the “present”.

Today is Yesterday's Tomorrow — Dream Sequence

On the day last past is yesterday. As time goes by, as time goes on, the time that is to come will be the present, then be the past. Time changes and seemingly flows on a linear timeline from the past, the present to the future. It is however an unreal existence. We can never perceive time but can only make sense of the world by our senses. We can only recall the past and imagine the future.

Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre (vA!) invites the artist, Alain Chiu, to create his work of art about the metaphysical concept of time in the forms of sound, music composition and media art. At the same time, Chorus Master, Ernest Hui plus seven performers engaged by Die Konzertisten, Law Tsz-ying [Soprano], Kenix Tsang [Soprano], Karis Ho [Mezzo-soprano], Bonnie Liu [Alto], Irwin Chan [Tenor], Alexander Chen [Tenor], Caleb Woo [Bass] are invited to perform three musical pieces composed by Alain Chiu, In Pluvia (In Rain), Simulacrum (Simulation) and Post ìmbrem (After the Rain).

Dream Sequence

Alain Chiu's ‘Dream Sequence' is an online media art project. With the form of assemblages, Alain Chiu creates a trilogy to express what he has come across and his feelings in these two years- (1) ‘Anatomy of a Dream' (virtual persona); (2) ‘Simulacrum' (CGI movie); (3) ‘I always hated the moisture, it makes me feel tired' (app and web). Sound art as the core medium in this online media project, to convey the metaphysical concept of now on a linear timeline and Alain's perception on his reconstructed memories and dreams, will bring people into a virtual audio-visual experience.

The works will be published successively online from now to May 2021. Please stay tuned to our Facebook page.
